Detour

With my logical mind I drive down the straight and narrow
Destination and arrival time determined
Intersection checkpoints are passed within schedule
The sun is bright, and the temperature pleasing

Ahead I see construction has blocked my path
A detour site has been posted
The sun fades and the heat grows uncomfortable warm
Panic sets in

Turning down the road less traveled
I appreciate scenery anew and unexplored
Many stop signs are defeated and passed
While each winding turn bringing more of the unknown

Alert with awareness, my confidence soars
And urgency enters the equation
I scold myself for checking my watch
And return to enjoying the adventure of this journey

Soon the familiar traveled road rejoins my quest
A sigh of relief involuntarily escapes my lips
Stopping on the side of the road, I reflect back…
AND FEEL PRIDE
