The Note

Leaning up against the board
A propped and flattened form
Indented from a a recent head
Uncovered sheets across the bed

Picked up. I hold the pillow tight
And cradle near my breast
Holding back my welling tears
Afraid to give in to my fears

The bed was made before I left
The covers tucked in tight
My stomach now inside my throat
For on the table is THE NOTE!
